Wren’s Turning One!

My cousin John and his wife Jessica’s little girl, Wren, is turning one soon, and to celebrate her birthday, they had a party at Wren’s grandparents’ gorgeous lake house today! Jess decorated Wren’s bedroom in a beautiful, fun, bright color scheme, perfect for a growing little one who is anxious to explore the world around them. I used photos of Wren’s nursery as inspiration for her birthday card. I love Jess’s sense of style, so I really wanted to make Wren a card that reflected that!

I stepped out of my comfort zone with this one as you’ll notice I used NO STAMPS! Except, heh, on the inside where I stamped “Happy Birthday”. I couldn’t resist, I also stamped a cute little birthday cake (not pictured) on the matching tag for the gift bag. This card also gave me an opportunity to use the new Silhouette my mom purchased a few weeks ago that has been idly awaiting to be pried out of its box. It sat patiently in my room while we prepared and successfully pulled off our first time exhibiting at CHA the last week in July! Phew! Fun time begins NOW! The “1″ in the circle is what I experimented with, and it was surprisingly easy! I used a font right out of my computer, lined it up in Illustrator, and voila! LOVE IT! For added dimension, I layered the cut image on top of red card stock, and popped it up with pop dots. Take a peek at the recipe listed below for  materials used and let me know what you think?

Card Base: Kraft cardstock  (this particular card I used a value pack I picked up at Michael’s)

Pattern Paper: From the “Penny Lane” stack from My Mind’s Eye

Buttons: Papertrey Ink

Glitter: Doodlebug Designs – Sugar Coating (I used orange glitter on top of orange cardstock. I love this stuff, it reminds me of sprinkles on a cake!)

Doodled polka dots: White Sakura Gelly Roll Pen
